Holocaust Memorial Day 2016

In one week on 27th January 2016 we will mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2016.

Whilst some actively supported and participated in state-led persecution, the majority were silent bystanders who were afraid to speak out or were indifferent to the fate of those around them.

“Bystanders enabled the Holocaust, Nazi Persecution and subsequent genocides”.

HMDT has also launched a powerful short film for HMD 2016 in which Susan Pollack a survivor of the Holocaust shares her unique story of surviving genocide.

This year an online arts project FLAMES FOR HUMANITY’S HEROES invites people to create and submit their own artwork: images, films, sound recordings and written pieces in honour of someone who did not stand by. There are many varied and inspiring projects featured by artists of all ages and backgrounds. Share the link to the FLAMES FOR HUMANITY’S HEROES art project with friends and family and if you would like to attend a commemorative event near you visit the linked HMD webpage.

You can read further about Holocaust Memorial Day 2016 and the national awareness work and resources available through the Holocaust Memorial Trust at the linked websites.

We will remember and we cannot stand by as millions of people in the world are still facing persecution and genocide today.
